Dahlias bulbs and dahlia seeds
Dahlia bulbs should be planted in the
spring for best results. They start blooming in early summer and
produce a lot of flowers. Dahlias are ideal for cut flowers,
borders, containers, and window boxes. For decorative gardens and landscaping,
dahlias can be used as focal points where a plant that possesses a huge
bloom, 12 inches or more in diameter, will create "oooohhs" and
"ahhhhhs" from admirers. You may want to create borders
(12 inches or so in height) or mass plant of one variety for special
visual effects. For cut flowers, small (4-6 inches in diameter), miniature
(2-4 inches in diameter), pom poms, and open-centered dahlias are best.
The colors of the dahlia are vivid and very
intense and color is usually the number one reason to pick one type of dahlia over
another. They tend to bloom for long periods, and few plants offer as much variety and showy flowers as the Dahlia.
Dahlias do best in well drained, humus rich soils.
